What is 11 point programme, post Odisha Train Tragedy- Ensuring the Safety to travel by Indian Trains

India recently has experienced, the most tragic incidence in the history of Indian Railways in the current century. The incident took a toll of 290 and several hundreds were injured. In the jolt of the incidence, the Railway Engineers Federation has released an 11 Point Programme, those which are some suggestions in order to ensure the safety of passengers so as to maintain the glory of "Indian Railways". The key points covered under this programme are as follows:
Ø      More importance is to be given to safety than punctuality. If everything is safe, then punctuality can be achieved thereafter with no cost.
Ø  Sufficient blocks may be allotted for maintenance of assets without any pressure to avoid possible shortcut methods.
Ø  Outsourcing of safety works requiring specialization to be dismantled.
Ø  Weekly rest may be ensured to Railway Engineers (SSEs & JEs) except in case of extreme emergencies.
Ø  JE/SSEs should be barred from Trade Union activities at the earliest for discharging their duties more efficiently.
Ø  AIREF and its affiliated zonal associations to be taken into confidence for decision making.
Ø  JE/SSEs to be empowered suitably through delegation of power to handle day to day maintenance works smoothly.
Ø  To reduce overload/overstress fresh JE/SSE along with supporting staff to be recruited as per Railway Board immediately against vacant posts and as per increased assets.
Ø  Sanctioning of leaves to JE/SSEs to be done smoothly except in case of emergencies.
Ø  Technical qualification to be made compulsory for station masters to deal with latest technologies.
Ø  Immediate review and implementation of recommendations of previous Safety Committees i.e. Khanna Committee, Task Force on Safety, etc.
(JE- Junior Engineer, SSE- Senior Section Engineer)

The programme covers both the technical and non technical aspects that may ensure the safety of the passengers enjoying the journey through one of the biggest rail network of the world.

 Overview of Mission Juno

Unlocking Jupiter's Secrets
Juno will improve our understanding of the solar system's beginnings by revealing the origin and evolution of Jupiter.

What will Juno Do?
  • Determine how much water is in Jupiter's atmosphere, which helps determine which planet formation theory is correct (or if new theories are needed)
  • Look deep into Jupiter's atmosphere to measure composition, temperature, cloud motions and other properties
  • Map Jupiter's magnetic and gravity fields, revealing the planet's deep structure
  • Explore and study Jupiter's magnetosphere near the planet's poles, especially the auroras – Jupiter's northern and southern lights – providing new insights about how the planet's enormous magnetic force field affects its atmosphere
  • Mission Timeline
  • Launch - August 5, 2011
  • Deep Space Maneuvers - August/September 2012
  • Earth flyby gravity assist - October 2013
  • Jupiter arrival - July 2016
  • Spacecraft will orbit Jupiter for 20 months (37 orbits)
  • End of mission (deorbit into Jupiter) - February 2018
The Juno mission is the second spacecraft designed under NASA's New Frontiers Program. The first is the Pluto New Horizons mission, which flew by the dwarf planet in July 2015 after a nine-and-a-half-year flight. The program provides opportunities to carry out several medium-class missions identified as top priority objectives in the Decadal Solar System Exploration Survey, conducted by the Space Studies Board of the National Research Council in Washington.

JPL manages the Juno mission for the principal investigator, Scott Bolton, of Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio. The Juno mission is part of the New Frontiers Program managed at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Denver, built the spacecraft. Launch management for the mission is the responsibility of NASA's Launch Services Program at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. JPL is a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
